The Twig Announces New Executive Director

The Twig has announced that after eight wonderful years the founder and current Executive Director, Dianne Weed, will be retiring. Nicole Britton, the current Director of Development, will be taking on the role of Executive Director beginning in October.

From Dianne Weed: “What started as just a dream in my heart eight and a half years ago has blossomed into something magical. The Twig is a place where kids who are going through one of the hardest times in their life can find their smile. A place where foster parents can feel encouraged to push through the difficult moments ahead knowing that they are not alone. A place where tangible needs are met while hearts are encouraged. I am proud of what The Twig has become today. Being the Executive Director of The Twig has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done in my life. I have complete confidence that The Twig will be in excellent hands as I pass the torch to Nicole Britton. Over the past seven years Nicole has walked beside me on this journey as our Director of Development. During this time, we have gone from two shopping days at one location a month to ten shopping days between our two stores. We have also expanded our services beyond just shopping experiences to include multiple programs that allow us to support and encourage the foster family community in Southwest Florida. Nicole knows and sees the needs foster families are faced with and continues to find ways that The Twig can meet those needs.”

The Twig is currently serving approximately four hundred children in foster care every month between their Venice and Bradenton locations. Each of those children can shop with dignity for clothing and shoes completely free of charge. Beyond providing clothing, The Twig’s staff and volunteers are helping youth in foster care feel encouraged, loved, and supported.
