[Sarasota, FL] – December 27, 2024 – SunCoast Blood Centers is urgently appealing to the community to help replenish its blood supply following the holiday season. With the New Year holiday approaching, blood reserves are at critically low levels, putting local patients at risk.
As the primary blood provider for hospitals across Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto counties, SunCoast Blood Centers supplies essential blood products for accident victims, cancer patients, and newborns in the NICU. Recent high demand has placed unprecedented strain on its reserves, with a particularly critical need for all blood types—especially O-negative, the universal donor.
"This is a pivotal moment for our community," said Don Campbell, Chief Operating Officer of SunCoast Blood Centers. "Lives depend on the generosity of local donors, and we’re asking for everyone eligible to step forward and make a life-saving difference."
