MY NAME IS OLD BETSY Book Signing on Saturday, February 28

MY NAME IS OLD BETSY is a book about Venice’s first fire engine which survived the Miami Hurricane of 1926 flooded under 14 feet of water, before showing up in Venice where she is celebrating her 100th birthday.

“Hop on my shotgun seat and read with me through 100 years of Venice history.  Experience the people, places and events along the way through my eyes. If you don’t want to ride shotgun, hop on my tail board and hang on!”

Corky Dalton, the author, did not want to write a history book. Instead, he wanted Old Betsy to tell the story about her 100 years in Venice. He had to learn to speak and write fire-enginese.

Old Betsy was sometimes much more than a fire engine and sometimes much less.  She rolled with the punches through the birth of Venice, through its ghost city era, the war years, The Greatest Show On Earth, and Venice’s explosive growth starting in the 50s.She is one a kind in Venice, but there are other Old Betsys with similar stories. Learn about her extended family in the United States and abroad.

The book concludes with an unsolved Old Betsy mystery waiting for you to solve.

Join the folks at Venice Heritage and MY NAME IS OLD BETSY’S author on Saturday February 28 at 5:30 PM at the Island Book Shop on Nokomis Avenue. Enjoy light refreshments, a moderated discussion punctuated with fire-enginese.
