Child Protection Center Honors Four Foundations With Sapphire Award
The Child Protection Center (CPC) proudly presented the Sapphire Award at its annual Blue Ties & Butterflies gala in April, Child Abuse Prevention Month, to four exceptional foundations. The foundations were honored for their enduring support and leadership, which have helped shape the agency's 45-year legacy in the fight against child abuse.
In celebration of CPC’s 45th anniversary, the Sapphire Award—named after the traditional 45th anniversary gem—was created to recognize long-standing community partners. The four foundations have provided guidance, advocacy, and financial support that has been instrumental in CPC’s evolution, in establishing the organization as experts in child abuse, and recognized throughout the state and country for its leadership.
The Sapphire Award honorees include:
- Gulf Coast Community Foundation
- Community Foundation of Sarasota County
- Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation
- McCune Family Foundation
“These organizations have stood beside us through every challenge—economic uncertainty, natural disasters, and changing community needs,” said Doug Staley, Executive Director of CPC. “They’ve offered more than just funding. They’ve provided wisdom, strategic direction, board training, and a belief in our mission that has helped CPC grow into the comprehensive agency we are today.”
From its beginnings as a single program, CPC has grown into a robust center offering a full continuum of services in the prevention, intervention, and treatment of child abuse. Over the past year, the agency served over 65,000 individuals in Sarasota and DeSoto Counties. In the last quarter alone, the CPC conducted 102 medical exams to collect evidence of abuse, strengthened over 200 families through supervised visitations, and provided nearly 1,000 hours of therapy to survivors. “Thanks to these foundations, CPC stands strong,” said Staley. “Their investment has helped us build a lasting infrastructure of hope, healing, and advocacy for our most vulnerable children and families.”
The Child Protection Center’s (CPC) mission is the prevention, intervention, and treatment of child abuse, as the organization envisions a community where children are safe from abuse and free to thrive. For 45 years, CPC has been serving Sarasota and DeSoto Counties in the State of Florida and is accredited by the National Children’s Alliance.
