Child Protection Center Celebrates Executive Director’s 30 Years of Service

The Child Protection Center, Inc. (CPC) proudly announces the 30th anniversary of Executive Director Doug Staley’s service to the agency, marking three decades of unwavering dedication to protecting children from abuse and strengthening families.

Doug began his journey at CPC in January 1995 as an intern facilitating parenting classes, an opportunity guided by Dr. Kay Glasser. Just months later, he joined the staff as a part-time Case Coordinator, supporting both the Child Protection Team and Therapy Programs. By August of 1995, Doug had transitioned into a full-time Case Coordinator, setting the foundation for a lifelong career of advocacy and leadership.

In September 2011, Doug was appointed Executive Director during a time of financial strain for the organization. In addition to leading the agency, he simultaneously took on responsibilities in grant writing, development, finance, and team coordination to ensure CPC’s mission continued without interruption despite the lack of resources and staff.

Throughout his career, Doug has remained deeply rooted in the field of social work, holding both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in the discipline. When asked why he has dedicated his life to CPC and the fight against child abuse, his answer is simple and powerful: “The work is too important.”

Doug’s leadership has been characterized not only by organizational growth but also by his steadfast support of CPC’s staff and their development. At a recent staff celebration, colleagues shared stories of his unwavering encouragement, his instinct to “have their back without a second of hesitation,” and his determination to always put children first. In recognition of his 30 years, Doug was presented with a tribute inspired by one of his favorite quotes from Robert F. Kennedy: “You have worked to change events, you stood up for ideals, your actions improved the lots of others, you struck out against injustice, you sent forth a ripple of hope.”

From intern to Executive Director, Doug’s leadership has saved lives, inspired change, and ensured CPC remains a safe haven for the most vulnerable in our community.

The Child Protection Center’s (CPC) mission is the prevention, intervention, and treatment of child abuse, as the organization envisions a community where children are safe from abuse and free to thrive. For 45 years, CPC has been serving Sarasota and DeSoto Counties in the State of Florida and is accredited by the National Children’s Alliance.
