About Us
Literacy Volunteers trains volunteers to help foreign-born adults learn English as a Second Language (ESL) and to help English-speaking adults improve their reading and writing skills. Part-time Coordinators in our Venice and North Port offices match trained volunteers with adults who request our services. One-to-one in-person and online tutoring and ESL classes at the North Port Library are free to adult learners. Citizenship classes are also offered.
Literacy Volunteers achieve positive outcomes for both employees and employers. Employees gain the ability to understand, learn, and apply information and work in teams. Employers benefit from improved employee morale and self-esteem, increased quality of work, and improved capacity to solve problems.
